Tis the season of stains! Enjoy the holiday season and its festivities without taking a toll on your office carpets. Tending to stains immediately prevents a stain from being deeply absorbed into carpet fibres and makes it easier to remove. Spot testing is critical when cleaning commercial carpets, especially when unsure about the material. Consider low-maintenance commercial floor options when designing your office space. There are a variety of common holiday carpet stains we often come across. Keep reading to learn more!

Red Wine

Red wine or mulled wine can be tricky to remove from carpets because of its dark pigment. Avoid rubbing the stain, as it will only deepen it. Instead, pour club soda on the stain and let it sit for 10-20 minutes. If the wine stain is still visible, repeat the process. Alternatively, pour salt on the stain to help lift the stain. Once the stain is fully removed, vacuum any excess salt.

Coffee

Coffee stains are a problem any time of year, but especially during the holiday season, as alcohol and liqueurs are often involved. There are two methods for removing coffee stains from the carpet. The first method involves mixing baking soda and warm water to create a paste. Alternatively, combine warm, soapy water and vinegar and apply to the stain. Both methods require ample dwell time and a bristle brush to scrub the stain.

Cranberry Sauce

Cranberry sauce may seem like a challenging stain to remove due to its bright colour, but it is quite easy to remove. Dishwashing detergent, warm water, and a non-abrasive cloth are all you need to remove cranberry sauce from office carpets. Before cleaning, it is key that you remove any excess cranberry sauce with a spoon or butter knife.

Candle Wax

When candle wax is cool, it makes it easier to remove. Place an ice cube on the candle wax spill until it is completely hardened. Scrape the hardened wax with a butter knife until most of the wax is removed. Place a tea towel over the wax and use an iron to re-heat the wax. The towel will absorb a majority of the wax. Repeat the process if not fully removed and then clean the area with rubbing alcohol (if the candle was coloured).

Gravy

Gravy stains can be oily. Dawn dish soap or a dishwashing detergent is ideal for removing gravy and other dips from commercial carpets.

Chocolate

Chocolate can be difficult to see on office carpets when not melted but can be a pain to remove. It is important to act quickly so the stain doesn’t set in and harden. If the chocolate has already hardened, scrape the surface and clean the area with warm, soapy water. Use a towel to blot the stain and further absorb any residue.
